All you need to know about development cooperation relations between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the World Bank Group
The relationship between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the World Bank Group (WBG) has been characterized by strong relations since its inception and over the decades, based on the development efforts exerted and the role played by the Bank to support development in emerging economies and developing countries. Following the launch of the Country Partnership Framework 2023-2027, the Ministry of International Cooperation reviews in the following report the most important aspects of the relationship with the WBG and its affiliated institutions.

H.E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation and Governor of Egypt at the World Bank Group, said that Egypt has long standing historical relations with the World Bank, as it is considered one of the founding countries of the Bank since 1945. Over the decades, development cooperation relations between Egypt and the World Bank Group has grown until the World Bank has become one of the most important multilateral development partners in Egypt, as well as its consistent and effective contribution to supporting national development priorities in various fields.

The Minister of International Cooperation H.E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat participated in many discussion sessions and events during the "Growth Summit 2023", which was held at the headquarters of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Switzerland, in which economic leaders across the world from business organizations, civil society, the private sector and governments meet to discuss the formation of a sustainable and just future, discussing many topics, including employment, climate action challenges, artificial intelligence, innovation, and creating a workforce ready for future challenges.

The Ministry of International Cooperation issued a report on the development of Egyptian-Japanese relations at the level of development cooperation efforts, against the background of the continuous progress in relations between the two countries and the visit of the Japanese Prime Minister to Egypt, and his meeting with H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of The Arab Republic of Egypt, where it was agreed to enhance our strategic relations and partnership.

H.E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation, met Uchida Makoto, Global President and Head of the Environment and Infrastructure Finance Group at the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), within the framework of the activities of the visit of the Japanese Prime Minister to the Arab Republic of Egypt, in light of the strategic relations between the two countries. During the meeting, they discussed mechanisms for implementing the memorandum of understanding for the strategic partnership for financial and economic cooperation that was signed within the activities of the visit, and efforts to enhance the role of Japanese private sector companies to support Egypt’s development efforts, climate action and implementation of infrastructure projects, and to discuss the participation of the Japanese private sector in implementing the Nexus for Water, Food, and Energy platform, the NWFE program.

The South Helwan Power Station project won the Abdul Latif Youssef Al-Hamad Development Award in the Arab region during the 2023 joint annual meetings of Arab financial institutions held in Rabat, Morocco. This was presented by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD) in a competition with 11 projects. It was nominated for the award, including two projects from Egypt and 9 projects from Jordan, Sudan, Djibouti, Somalia, Mauritania and Yemen, in addition to a project implemented at the regional level.
