In Continuation of Egypt’s Efforts to Implement Economic and Structural Reform Measures and Empower the Private Sector | The World Bank Group Announces a Financing Package for the Egyptian Economy worth $6 billion for the Next Three Years

H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation and Governor of Egypt at the World Bank Group, announced that within the framework of the Bank’s commitment to the long-term strategic partnership with Egypt, and in implementation of efforts to support economic reform measures taken by the country to achieve economic recovery and comprehensive and sustainable growth, the World Bank Group intends to provide $6 billion in financing over the next three years, $3 billion to support the economic reform program implemented by the government, and $3 billion to empower the private sector.

In continuation of the efforts undertaken by the Ministry of International Cooperation to mobilize technical support and funds to implement the “NWFE” program projects, to advance the green transformation and implement the National Climate Change Strategy 2050, the Ministry and the European Investment Bank (EIB) held a meeting to launch the technical support services provided by the bank, for the project “Enhancing Adaptation in the Northern Delta Affected by Sea Level Rise” which comes within the food pillar projects, with a grant worth €350 thousand.

In order to enhance efforts to transition to a green and sustainable economy in Egypt and implement the Green Cities Programme, which comes within the framework of cooperation between the government and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the bank, in cooperation with the government, launched the plan to transform 6th of October City into a green city. In implementation of the joint statement issued last November with the participation of 20 development partners and international institutions House of Representatives approves development financing worth €53 million to implement the smart energy project within the energy pillar of the “NWFE” program.

In its plenary session yesterday, the House of Representatives approved Presidential Resolution No. 24 of 2024 regarding the exchange of letters regarding financing the smart energy project within the energy pillar of the national platform of the “NWFE” program, through concessional development financing worth €54 million from the German side, of which €3 million grant, in implementation of the joint statement issued in November 2023, with the participation of 20 development partners, international financial institutions and international alliances, as well as the joint political declaration issued during the COP27 climate conference, between Egypt, Germany and the United States of America, in which the two countries pledged to provide support and assistance to Egypt’s efforts in the green transition and a just transition towards renewable energy.

At the conclusion of their visit to Egypt, H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation and Governor of Egypt at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), received representatives of the Bank’s Board of Directors, where the meeting witnessed a review of the results of the visit that lasted over 6 days, and witnessed extensive meetings, visits and consultations of the Board of Directors with representatives of the national entities, private sector, business community, development partners, and civil society. In addition, bank officials inspected a number of projects for which the bank contributed to providing financial and technical support, whether to the private or public sector.
