The Minister of International Cooperation, H.E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat, Meets with the World Bank’s Senior Managing Director for Development Policy and Partnerships Affairs
During the activities of COP28 in the United Arab Emirates, the Minister of International Cooperation and Governor of Egypt at the World Bank Group (WBG), H.E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat, met with the Senior Managing Director for Development Policy and Partnerships Affairs at the World Bank, Axel van Trotsenburg, in order to follow up on cooperation efforts with the bank. The WBG is one of the strategic development partners of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and contributes to financing many projects in various development fields.

The Minister of International Cooperation, H.E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat, Participates in a High-level Event to Launch a Partnership to Enhance Women’s Ability to Adapt to Climate Change on Gender Equality Day at COP28
The Minister of International Cooperation, H.E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat, participated in a high-level event to discuss women’s empowerment within the Paris Climate Agreement. The event witnessed the launch of an international partnership to enhance women’s ability to adapt to climate change and ensure a just, gender-responsive transition, with the participation of Razan Al Mubarak, UN Climate Change High-Level Champion at COP28, Maya Morsy, President of the National Council for Women, Odile Renaud-Basso, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and many representatives of governments and international financial institutions.

Al-Mashat, participated in a high-level discussion session on “Climate Finance and Health: Strengthening the Role of Development Banks and International Institutions,” with the participation of Mamta Murthi, Vice President of the World Bank for Human Development, Thomas Ostros, Vice-President of the European Investment Bank (EIB), Mohamed Guled, Vice-President of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Kambita Pichet, CEO of the Rwanda Development Bank, Zamir Iqbal, Vice-President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), and Sir Danny Alexander, Vice-President the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

During the activities of the United Nations Climate Conference COP28, the Minister of International Cooperation, H.E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat, participated in a discussion session co-organized by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, and the World Bank Group, on “Aligning Development and Climate finance with Humanitarian Needs,” where the session explored how to align development, humanitarian and climate financing, to effectively enhance resilience to climate shocks, and also discussed the role of national and country platforms.

The Minister of International Cooperation, H.E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat, participated in a high-level discussion session on laying the foundations for expanding the scope of climate action and accelerating its pace, which was organized in partnership between the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), and was held in The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change pavilion during COP28 in the United Arab Emirates.

During the activities of the United Nations Climate Conference COP28 in the United Arab Emirates, the Arab Republic of Egypt joined the Battery Energy Storage Systems Alliance (BESS), which is one of the main initiatives of the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), bringing the number of joining countries to 10 countries, as the letter of intent was signed by the Minister of International Cooperation, H.E. Dr. Rania. A. Al-Mashat, and the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, H.E. Dr. Muhammad Shaker Al-Marqabi.

Today, the Ministry of International Cooperation announced the completion of procedures for handing over the former headquarters of the Ministry in the downtown area of Cairo, to become a temporary headquarters for the Arab Court of Arbitration, after the Ministry moved to its new headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, within the framework of presidential directives to enhance joint Arab action and support economic integration.

In implementation of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, to strengthen joint Arab action, and in implementation of the decision of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers issued last August, the Ministry of International Cooperation completed the handover ceremony of the former headquarters of the Ministry located in the downtown area, to become the temporary headquarters of the Arab Court of Arbitration, until the permanent headquarters of the court is prepared in the City of Justice in the New Administrative Capital.

The Ministry of International Cooperation recently held a high-level roundtable to launch the first follow-up progress report on the NWFE program, presenting the progress achieved in the water, food, energy and sustainable transport sectors, and the joint coordination efforts that took place across the year with multilateral and bilateral development partners, government entities, the private sector, and global alliances in the field of climate action.
