During the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA77) in New York: The Minister of International Cooperation, H.E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat met with the Executive Vice President of the European Commission to Discuss Egypt’s Country Platform for the NWFE Program

The Minister of International Cooperation H.E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat met with Frans Timmermans, the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, at the  77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 77) in New York. They discussed  the ongoing partnerships between Egypt and the European Union, joint efforts to promote the transition to a green economy, and future steps to support Egypt’s Country Platform for the NWFE Program, a nexus of water, food and energy.

During the meeting, Al-Mashat thanked Timmermans for the fruitful cooperation and joint efforts in development cooperation, and for his participation in the NWFE roundtable during the second edition of the Egypt - International Cooperation Forum. They also discussed upcoming opportunities in the NWFE Program, which includes a range of projects that cover areas of adaptation and mitigation, all within the National Climate Change Strategy 2050, launched by Egypt ahead of COP27.

The Minister added that the NWFE Program  reflects the objectives of the Egyptian presidency of the COP27, which is to move from pledges to implementation; accelerating climate action, mobilizing development financing and private sector investments, and providing technical support in the priority sectors of water, food, and energy.

The Minister is participating in the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), held in New York, under the theme, “A Watershed Moment: Transformative Solutions to Interlocking Challenges”, to address the triple crises of COVID-19, climate change and Russian-Ukrainian crisis. The meetings discuss a number of important topics, notably food insecurity, energy prices and disruptions to global supply chains.

Recently, the Ministry of International Cooperation, in cooperation with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Finance and Environment, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, organized the second edition of the Egypt-International Cooperation Forum (Egypt-ICF), and the meeting of African Ministers of Economy, Finance and Environment, under the auspices and presence of H.E. President Abdel Fattah Sisi, the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The forum witnessed the participation of more than 23 African governments, and around 20 discussion sessions, workshops and roundtables were held to galvanize the international community to support Africa’s climate change agenda, and to consolidate messages ahead of "Finance Day" during COP27.
