The Minister of International Cooperation, H.E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat held a meeting with the US ambassador in Cairo, Jonathan Cohen, who is set to officially end his mission in Egypt as a representative of the United States of America by the end of this month.
During the meeting, Cohen expressed his gratitude for the role of the Ministry of International Cooperation in promoting effective and inclusive multilateral engagement over the past period and strengthening the strategic partnership between the United States of America and the Arab Republic of Egypt.
In the same vein, the Minister of International Cooperation, H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, referred to the persistent cooperation between the Ministry and the US Embassy in Cairo over the last two years, and that the past years of cooperation created a strong foundation to expand more areas of cooperation for the period from 2021-2025.
Spotlighting health, and as a response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, the USAID provided over $5 million in additional assistance to Egypt with the Ministry of International Cooperation and the Ministry of Health and Population. In 2020, the Ministry of International Cooperation and the USAID signed 7 grant agreements worth $125 million to develop the country's priority sectors, the results of which will be reflected in the improvement of the people’s livelihoods. The USAID’s historical cooperation portfolio in Egypt has exceeded $30 billion since 1978, while the portfolio of projects signed since 2014 has reached about $1 billion.
