The Minister of International Cooperation launches the results of the Global Partnership for Effective Development

Minister Dr. Rania Al-Mashat the Minister of International Cooperation reviewed the results of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC) Survey. This was during the videoconference meeting chaired by Minister Dr. Rania Al-Mashat with more than 100 professionals representing heads of country offices, development professionals from bilateral partners as well as multilateral development organizations to discuss opportunities for advancing and promoting future mutual economic cooperation and consequences of the spread of novel corona virus.

The survey showed the high degree of alignment of development partners to country priorities which reached 73% while the predictability of development cooperation was 90% highlighting the proper planning process of development cooperation. The link to the presentation: http://bit.ly/MOICxGPEDCxSurveyResults In the meeting Dr. Al-Mashat noted that the survey reflects the progress Egypt achieved with regards to the effectiveness of its development projects and its alignment with the national development agenda in line with achieving the SDGs. The Minister also noted that Egypt has shown progress in most GPEDC indicators yet there is an opportunity for further improvement to maximize the effectiveness of development cooperation by encouraging medium-term predictability of development cooperation, elements that the Ministry of International Cooperation will work on in the period ahead with development partners. Mrs. Malinne Blomberg the Country Manager, Egypt Field Office for the African Development Bank welcomed the outreach by the Ministry of International Cooperation as Egypt continues to show its resilience in the face of global adversity with the Government taking rapid and solid actions. She added that Now more than ever, leadership is about communication and coordination of partners, and the outreach by the Minister of International Cooperation to the Development Partners is an essential step that helps the AfDB maximise our contribution to Egypts needs, both immediately and longer term. Dr. Heike Harmgart, Managing Director, Southern and Eastern Mediterranean, for the Eurpean Bank for Reconstruction and Development mentioned that the EBRD is working urgently across Egypt to deliver our 1bn EUR global solidarity package to companies and banks that are suffering from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. We already working with existing clients across Egypt to understand their needs and support them with working capital, trade finance as well as taking an enabling view to re-scheduling if existing loans. The meeting was attended by representatives from the World Bank, African Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, IFC, Islamic Trade Finance Corporation, French Development Agency, USAID, Japanese International Cooperation Agency, Korean Cooperation Agency, German International Cooperation Agency, KFW, Arab Fund for Social and Economic Development, and from the UN Agencies: The Resident Coordinator, UNDP, WFP, IFAD. ILO, FAO, UNIDO, UNWOMEN, UNHABITAT, UNAIDS, UNFPA were also participating as well as Ambassadors of Japan, France, South Korea and representatives from EU, Switzerland, Netherland, Canada, Spain, Sweden and Germany.
