H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, met with Mr. Kim Young-hyun, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Cairo, on the occasion of the conclusion of his tenure in Egypt. During the meeting, she expressed her appreciation for his contributions throughout his term and his role in supporting and strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries across various areas of mutual interest.
H.E. Dr. Al-Mashat highlighted the Ambassador’s dedicated efforts in advancing cooperation across several strategic areas aligned with Egypt’s development priorities. His engagement helped facilitate constructive cooperation among key sectors, supporting progress toward Egypt’s development goals and strategies and reflecting the shared commitment of both sides to sustainable and inclusive development.
H.E. Dr. Al-Mashat also underscored the expansion of joint programs and initiatives that have deepened the economic and development partnership with the Republic of Korea. She noted that the current portfolio of concessional financing from South Korea reached USD 1.3 billion in 2025. She emphasized that this growth not only reflects the vitality of bilateral cooperation through concessional financing, technical support, and knowledge exchange, but also underscores the strength and depth of the ties binding the two countries.
H.E. Dr. Al-Mashat further referred to the Korean President’s visit to Egypt last November, which reaffirmed the commitment of both sides to elevating bilateral relations and building a more prosperous future for both peoples. She reiterated Egypt’s firm commitment to continuing efforts to advance Egyptian-Korean relations in the coming years.
It is worth noting that Korea selected Egypt as a strategic partner for development cooperation during the 2020–2025 period. The Egyptian government seeks to build on this partnership in the coming phase to achieve further progress and joint initiatives that serve development priorities, in light of the strong commitment of both countries’ leaderships to expanding bilateral relations and exploring additional areas of cooperation.
In October, H.E. Dr. Al-Mashat participated in the Korean Embassy’s celebration of Korea’s National Day, marking 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. She also held a bilateral meeting with the Korean President’s Special Envoy to discuss the future of Egyptian-Korean relations in light of shared priorities.
