H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, witnessed the ceremony of World Statistics Day, organized by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), to announce the results of the 6th Economic Census (2022/2023), and the launch of the new CAPMAS website, with the participation of Major General Khairat Barakat, President of CAPMAS; Ms. Elena Panova, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Egypt; and Major General Abu Bakr Al-Gendy, former President of CAPMAS.

During the celebration, H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat witnessed review of highlighting the main features of the 6th Economic Census, which outlines the Egyptian economy for the coming period. The 6th Economic Census includes three new additions: data on e-commerce, outsourcing services, and the green economy, in addition to a comprehensive enumeration of official industrial zones and free investment zones.

In her remarks, H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat explained that celebrating World Statistics Day clearly reflects the pivotal role of statistics as a fundamental pillar in decision-making and supporting sustainable development. H.E. added that this year’s celebration holds particular significance, as it witnesses the announcement of the results of the 6th Economic Census, which is one of the most prominent national statistical projects, providing a comprehensive database that contributes to supporting economic and social development plans and highlights the volume of economic activity across various sectors.

H.E. emphasized that the announcement of the results of the 6th Economic Census represents the culmination of an integrated institutional and field work, contributing to the construction of a comprehensive database that enhances the state's capacity for evidence-based economic planning. She further noted that this census is of special importance as it is the only statistical tool that captures the structure of the national economy in all its components—industrial, commercial, service, and agricultural establishments across both the formal and informal sectors, providing a clear picture of the volume of economic activity and its geographical and sectoral distribution.

Dr. Al-Mashat added that the census data contribute to measuring growth and productivity rates, guiding investments toward priority sectors and regions, in addition to supporting the state's efforts to integrate the informal economy, enhance the efficiency of economic and social policies, and achieve development strategies.

H.E. further noted that the “Egypt’s Narrative for Economic Development” includes a dedicated chapter on regional planning and the localization of economic development, whereby the state works to implement more targeted and effective development policies. She also explained that accurate data, analytical reports, economic censuses, and various surveys provide a realistic view of development and enable policymakers to adopt appropriate policies.

The Minister praised the leading role of CAPMAS in promoting statistical awareness within society and in fostering a culture of data as the cornerstone of planning and decision-making. She underscored that accurate and up-to-date statistics are a crucial element in achieving economic efficiency and the optimal utilization of resources, noting that the data and statistics issued by the Agency cover various economic economic, social, demographic, and environmental activities, with full compliance with international and professional standards in data collection, dissemination, and analysis, thereby enhancing confidence in national statistics and making them an essential reference for researchers and policymakers.

Moreover, Dr. Al-Mashat emphasized that this exceptional event coincides with the official launch of the new CAPMAS website, in its modern format that reflects the Agency’s vision for advancing statistical data dissemination and enhancing digital transformation, thereby expanding data accessibility, enhancing transparency, and fostering interaction with various user groups, including researchers, decision-makers, and citizens. She pointed out that the new website provides researchers with an advanced platform for easy and convenient access to statistics and data. 

She added that this development reflects the Egyptian State’s belief in the importance of data as a fundamental pillar of sustainable development and its role in supporting the monitoring and evaluation system and achieving the goals of Egypt's Vision 2030.

H.E. highlighted that the launch of the new CAPMAS website comes within the framework of the digital transformation pursued by the Egyptian State, serving as a comprehensive official platform for data and statistics dissemination through a modern and interactive interface that enhances transparency and enables researchers and citizens to access information easily and conveniently, In addition, it allows users to work with the data presented in a way that enables its direct use in various studies and analyses, supporting the state's efforts to build an integrated knowledge system based on accurate and up-to-date data.

H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat concluded her remarks by extending her gratitude to Major General Khairat Barakat, President of CAPMAS, and all working teams for their distinguished efforts and meticulous preparation of all statistical activities, as well as for the high-level organization of this celebration. She also expressed her appreciation to the team responsible for conducting the 6th Economic Census for their sincere national efforts, which resulted in accurate and comprehensive results that reinforce the Agency’s position as a trusted source of official data. Furthermore, she extended her thanks to the team responsible for developing the new CAPMAS website, which presented an outstanding model of innovation and digital transformation that contributes to expanding data accessibility, enhancing transparency, and promoting interaction with various user groups.

The ceremony also witnessed Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Major General Khairat Barakat, and Mr. Sayed Toman, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Post Authority, inaugurating the commemorative stamp for World Statistics Day, in collaboration between the National Post Authority and CAPMAS.

During the ceremony, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat also honored a number of distinguished figures in the field of statistics in Egypt.
