H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Development, and International Cooperation, participated in the roundtable held by H.E. Dr. Badr Abdel-Atty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptians Expatriate, with the Presidents of the Executive Boards of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), UNICEF, UN Women, and the World Food Programme (WFP).
Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, emphasized the importance of the partnership between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United Nations, which is based on country ownership, transparency, and clarity in its approach to achieving national development priorities.
Dr. Al-Mashat highlighted the vision of H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, consistently affirms in all his speeches, both inside and outside the country, Egypt’s steadfast national stance on regional and international peace and security, as well as on human rights and the achievement of development.
In the same context, Dr. Al-Mashat reviewed Egypt’s efforts to achieve economic and sustainable development, and the reforms implemented by the Egyptian government in recent years, which contributed to the improvement of the Egyptian economy’s performance, its raised credit rating, and led to the creation of an attractive investment climate.
In another context, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat stressed that the United Nations and its specialized agencies can play a pivotal role in supporting the Egyptian state's efforts to implement Egypt's development agenda in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030, which is being implemented through the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2023-2027. This framework serves as the umbrella that enhances cooperation between the government and UN agencies, co-chaired by the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation and the UN Resident Coordinator, and is executed in coordination with various national entities.
Minister Al-Mashat pointed out that the government recently launched “Egypt’s Narrative for Economic Development: Reforms for Growth, Jobs & Resilience”, where growth and job creation constitute a key priority for the Egyptian economy, which seeks to transition to higher-productivity sectors and achieve integration between industrial, commercial, and employment policies.
Dr. Al-Mashat also referred to the country platform of the "NWFE" program, which has managed to mobilize about $5 billion for the private sector since 2022 for renewable energy projects. She stressed that the Ministry seeks to achieve integration between partnerships with the United Nations and other international institutions to support the state's efforts in achieving development, mobilizing investments, and empowering the private sector, in addition to strengthening South-South and Triangular Cooperation.
The meeting discussed ways to support cooperation between Egypt and the United Nations and its specialized agencies, where the two Ministers praised the constructive role played by the UN organization in supporting peace and sustainable development at the regional and international levels, and appreciated the diverse development projects implemented by the international organization in Egypt.
The meeting also touched on cooperation between Egypt and the United Nations on a number of issues including food security, development of the health and education systems, water security, ways to reduce child mortality, and improving services provided to children and the most vulnerable communities, as well as women's empowerment in various sectors, including boosting women's economic participation and promoting women's leadership roles in the public and private spheres.
