H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation and Egypt’s Governor at the Islamic Development Bank Group, met with Mr. Alvaro Lario, President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), to discuss a number of joint files, during her participation in the 2025 Annual Meetings of the Islamic Development Bank Group, held from May 19 to 22 in Algiers, the capital of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, under the theme “Diversifying Economies, Enriching Lives.” Where these meetings witness the convening of the Islamic Development Bank's Board of Governors to discuss ways to promote inclusive and sustainable development and address common economic challenges.
During the meeting, H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat praised the joint efforts of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), in cooperation with national entities, to support agricultural and rural development, expand programs that raise the standard of living for small farmers, as well as promote food security efforts, especially through the country platform for the “NWFE” program, where IFAD assumes the role of the main development partner in the food pillar of the program, and works through partnership with the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation to mobilize technical support and concessional financing for the implementation of food security projects.
H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat also discussed the new framework of the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation in light of recent presidential mandates, aims to achieve economic development and maximize the utilization of domestic and external resources in order to achieve sustainable growth and inclusive development.
The two sides discussed the developments of the Climate Resilient On Farm Water Management in Nile Valley project (CROWN) project, which is part of the “NWFE” platform. emphasizing the depth of cooperation between the Egyptian government and the International Fund for Agricultural Development IFAD and the effective support provided by the Fund in preparing and implementing the necessary arrangements to mobilize financial resources from multiple sources, including the Green Climate Fund and the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), to cover the technical components of the project, which include training, capacity building, and community integration.
It is worth noting that a number of projects are being implemented under the food pillar of the “NWFE” program, including the Climate Resilient On Farm Water Management in Nile Valley project, the Climate Resilient Agric-Food Transformation project (CRAFT), as well as the Enhancing Adaptation in the Northern Delta Affected by Sea Level Rise project, and the Resilience Enhancement in Remote and Most Needy Areas Project.
In March, the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation launched the “The 2nd progress report” on the country platform for the “NWFE” program. The report reviewed the progress of project implementation under the water, food, and energy pillars, as well as the efforts made with development partners to complete the program.
