Minister of International Cooperation Al Mashat met with Richard Dictus the UN Resident Coordinator to Egypt on Monday at the Ministry’s headquarters to push forward the United Nations Partnership Development Framework (UNPDF) and streamline the way forward to ensure Egypt’s sustainable future in a coherent and consistent manner.
Al Mashat congratulated the UN Coordinator for the WFP’s award on winning the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize on the WFP Efforts, and referred to the collaborative work conducted this year with World Food Programe in celebration of the UN 75th Anniversary through the “Beyond Food” film and the field visit to Upper Egypt. For his part, Dictus commended the ministry’s efforts in shifting mindsets of effective development cooperation through the principles of economic diplomacy. These principles include regularly organizing multi-stakeholder platforms to ensure that all projects between development partners are streamlined and effectively coordinated; adopting a consistent Global Partnerships Narrative People&Projects&Purpose (P&P&P); and mapping ODA financing to SDGs for all projects with multilateral and bilateral development partners. REDEFINING DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION Under the Global Partnerships Narrative; the third principle of Economic Diplomacy – the minister noted that the main aim is to showcase the impact of international cooperation on Egypt’s development, referring to the ‘Beyond Food’ video which was shared globally through the WFP social media pages and the UN WFP Chief David Beasley, who thanked the Ministry and UN WFP’s efforts in promoting food security for economic prosperity and stability. The meeting included discussions on the status and progress on the UNPDF and pushing it forward in a coherent, consistent and comprehensive manner, focusing on social inclusiveness, job creation, restoring livelihoods through supporting MSME’s to achieve a green economy. The discussion included the Ministry of International Cooperation’s ODA SDG Financing Framework, which includes for the first time all UN projects; an extensive exercise conducted by the Ministry to map out the projects to the SDGs to ensure aid effectiveness and includes the contribution of the Development Partners Group (DPG). Earlier in October, Minister of International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat held a high level meeting with UN agencies and declared the years 2020-2021 as the “Years of Multilateralism,” highlighting Egypt’s strategy to revive the spirit of multilateralism amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The Ministry of International Cooperation supervises the implementation of the (UNPDF), and chairs the Steering Committee for the framework with the UN Resident Coordinator in Egypt. This focuses on four outcomes: inclusive Economic Development, social Justice, environmental sustainability and natural resource Management and women's empowerment.
