With the participation of representatives from 21 ministries and national entities: Launch of the Expert Meetings for the Egyptian-Iraqi Joint Higher Committee in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad

The technical meetings for the 3rd session of the Egyptian-Iraqi Joint Committee commenced in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, chaired by the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation on the Egyptian side, and the Ministry of Trade on the Iraqi side, within the framework of the keenness of the two brotherly countries to move forward in developing and strengthening of joint relations across various developmental fields and to diversify frameworks for bilateral cooperation in economic, commercial, and investment sectors.

The expert meetings are being held in preparation for the ministerial committee meeting at the end of this week, chaired by H.E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, and Dr. Atheer Al-Ghareeri, Iraqi Minister of Trade, followed by the convening of the higher committee chaired by Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of Egypt, and Mr. Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani, Prime Minister of Iraq.

The Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation emphasized that the Egyptian-Iraqi Joint Higher Committee represents an important mechanism for cooperation and partnership between the two countries in order to develop aspects of cooperation and respond to development priorities and requirements, in light of the directives of H.E. President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and his constant keenness to enhance Egyptian-Iraqi relations, whether on the bilateral level or through the tripartite partnership with Jordan, which contributed to the holding of the first session of the committee in 2020, despite the signing of the committee agreement in 1988 between the two countries.

Experts from both sides will discuss several  proposed memoranda of understanding to be signed during the higher committee meetings in various developmental fields, including antiquities, museums, telecommunications, and silo construction, in addition to exchanging expertise in the education, health, agriculture, water resources, and private sector development sectors.

The Egyptian delegation includes representatives of the Ministries of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptians Abroad, Defense, Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Investment, Foreign Trade and Industry, Transport, Health and Population, Communications and Information Technology, Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Interior, Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, Tourism and Antiquities, Supply and Internal Trade, Finance, Labor, the Central Bank of Egypt, the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones, the Supreme Council for Media Regulation, the Egyptian Medicines Authority, the Federation of Egyptian Industries, and the Federation of Egyptian Industries, and their Iraqi counterparts.

It is worth noting that Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid received H.E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, during the Davos Forum meetings, in the presence of Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Eng. Hassan Al-Khatib, where they discussed various fields of cooperation and preparations for the Egyptian-Iraqi Joint Committee.
