The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) sent a technical mission to the Arab Republic of Egypt to hold coordination meetings with the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation and officials of the Suez Canal Authority to study proposals for cooperation with the Suez Canal Authority, as part of the Ministry's role to strengthen partnership between national entities and development partners, by supporting the priority development projects of the Egyptian Government.
During the mission period, a series of meetings were held between the Japanese mission and representatives of the Suez Canal Authority and the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, to prepare a detailed study on the request for cooperation with the Japanese government to provide a rescue support locomotive for the Suez Canal Authority, as part of efforts to develop the Canal's navigation and support the maritime fleet of the Authority. The importance of this project lies in its contribution to rapid response to emergencies that contributes to the sustainable and stable operation of the Suez Canal.
At the conclusion of the mission's work, H.E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, stressed the importance of bilateral cooperation with Japan and the strategic partnership within which many development projects and programs are implemented in various priority sectors for the state, especially in the field of infrastructure development, human capital development, industrial development, capacity building and strengthening technical education.
It is worth noting that the Ministry recently held a high-level policy dialogue with the Japanese government and financial institutions - which is held annually - as part of the efforts made to advance relations between the two countries, and coincides with the 70th anniversary of the launch of bilateral relations, in continuation of a series of meetings held with multilateral and bilateral development partners to set work priorities during the next phase, with the participation of the Japanese Ambassador to Egypt, representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO).
