H.E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, arrived in Brazil to participate in the G20 Development Ministerial Meeting as part of the G20 activities, taking place in Rio de Janeiro. These meetings serve as a precursor to the G20 Leaders Summit scheduled for November 2024.
The G20 Summit in Brazil is themed “Building a Just World & Sustainable Planet." The Brazilian presidency of the G20 has prioritized social integration, reducing hunger and poverty rates, transforming the energy sector for sustainable development across its social, economic, and environmental dimensions, and reforming international institutions. The meetings include participation from G20 members, the African Union, the European Union, as well as representatives from numerous countries and governments.
Al-Mashat will represent the Arab Republic of Egypt in the G20 Development Working Group. Key objectives include discussions on social integration, reducing inequality, investments in water as a key driver of economic development, enhancing sustainable development goals, tripartite cooperation, and addressing barriers hindering efforts of developing countries towards achieving development.
In this context, the Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation will engage in various events, including bilateral meetings with development partners, international institutions, and governments.
The summit, held from July 22 to 26, brings together leaders from the financial sector, governments, development ministers, central bank governors, and international institutions of the world's largest economies to discuss global economic issues, climate crisis, debt challenges facing developing and emerging countries, and efforts to reform and develop multilateral development banks.
It is noteworthy that the G20 comprises the world's 20 largest economies, established in 1999, convening annually in member countries to discuss current economic and financial issues, propose solutions to financial, geopolitical challenges, and other issues hindering global development efforts.
