During the IMF and World Bank Group Meetings in Washington… Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation Discusses Joint Cooperation with Lebanese Minister of Economy and OPEC Director-General for International Development

Al-Mashat discusses with the Lebanese Minister of Economy the preparations for convening the Joint Committee between the two countries next November

H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, held a number of bilateral meetings with multilateral and bilateral development partners and government representatives during her participation in the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group Meetings in the American capital, Washington.

Director-General of the OPEC Fund for International Development

H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat met with H.E. Dr. Abdulhamid Alkhalifa, Director-General of the OPEC Fund for International Development. The two sides discussed the joint relations between Egypt and the Fund, and ways to strengthen cooperation in the fields of development and investment, particularly in light of the growing role of the OPEC Fund in supporting the efforts of member and partner countries to achieve sustainable development.

The Minister praised OPEC's vital role in supporting development pathways in Egypt, especially through its development programs and projects that contribute to strengthening the infrastructure. She noted the structural economic reforms implemented by Egypt to enhance financial stability and achieve inclusive and sustainable growth.

Lebanese Minister of Economy and Trade

Dr. Rania Al-Mashat also held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Dr. Amer Bisat, the Lebanese Minister of Economy and Trade. 

The meeting reviewed ways to strengthen economic relations between the two sisterly countries, and the preparations for convening the Egyptian-Lebanese Joint Committee next November, as well as efforts to exchange expertise in the fields of planning and sustainable development. This was in addition to discussing opportunities for technical and institutional cooperation in the areas of investment, energy, and trade, and supporting the private sector's role in reconstruction projects.

Both sides reaffirmed the two countries' keenness to continue coordination on issues of common interest, which contributes to achieving sustainable regional economic development and strengthening the bonds of joint Arab cooperation.

The Minister highlighted the keenness of the Egyptian state, led by H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, to deepen the partnership with Lebanon and advance economic and investment relations to broader prospects, which benefits the two sisterly peoples.

Dr. Al-Mashat emphasized the importance of doubling the volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Lebanon and removing obstacles to trade and simplifying customs procedures to support joint economic growth opportunities, praising the strength of the historical ties that unite the two countries.
