President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, to the Hellenic Republic… The Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation holds talks with the Greek Minister of Development to strengthen economic ties between the two countries

Al-Mashat:

• The presidential visit to Greece opens broad horizons for advancing economic, trade, and investment partnerships between the two countries.

• Egypt places strong emphasis on localizing industry and improving the business climate to achieve private sector–led economic growth.

• We have made significant progress in the renewable energy sector by implementing structural reforms that attract private investment and enhance Egypt’s position as a leading country.

As part of H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s official visit to the Greek capital, Athens, H.E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, held a meeting—attended by Eng. Hassan El-Khatib, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade—with Mr. Takis Theodorikakos, Greek Minister of Development, and Mr. Tasos Chatzivasileiou, Greek Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting reviewed ways to enhance economic relations between the two countries, in light of the joint declaration on a strategic partnership.

H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat emphasized the importance of H.E. President El-Sisi’s visit to Greece, reflecting Egypt’s commitment to elevating bilateral partnerships across various fields that contribute to the development efforts of both nations.

H.E. Minister Al-Mashat noted that the declaration of a strategic partnership between Egypt and Greece represents an advanced model of bilateral cooperation built on shared interests and aligned development visions.

H.E. Dr. Al-Mashat highlighted that the first meeting of the High-Level Cooperation Council, chaired by the presidents of both countries, marks a significant shift in coordination mechanisms and opens avenues for greater integration in key sectors such as energy, industry, innovation, and sustainable development—contributing to long-term development goals for both sides.

The meeting touched on Egypt’s efforts to empower the private sector and create a favorable investment and business climate to attract both domestic and foreign investments. It also addressed economic and structural reforms aimed at boosting sustainable growth, alongside initiatives to support startups, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

Discussions also focused on joint efforts to expand the scope of economic, trade, and investment cooperation, building on the pivotal steps taken by the presidents through the launch of the High-Level Cooperation Council and the strategic partnership.

H.E. Dr. Al-Mashat outlined a number of points of convergence and complementarity between the Egyptian and Greek economies on both bilateral and regional levels—particularly in clean energy, technology, entrepreneurship, private sector investment, education, and industry.

H.E. Dr. Al-Mashat stressed that Egypt has set key priorities to promote sustainable growth and inclusive economic development, by implementing measures to ensure macroeconomic stability through fiscal and monetary policies. These include encouraging investment, improving the business environment, reducing costs, and unifying investor fees. She also noted the focus on the industrial sector—particularly non-oil manufacturing—which has witnessed continued progress as a result of government action.

H.E. Minister Al-Mashat pointed out Egypt’s significant progress in establishing itself as a regional energy hub. Since 2014, the government has undertaken ongoing structural and legislative reforms in the energy sector, which have strongly attracted private investment. She referred to the launch of the country platform for the “NWFE” program, which aims to implement 10 GW of projects by 2028. So far, funding has been secured for projects with a capacity of 4.2 GW, in partnership with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, supporting Egypt’s target of reaching 42% of its electricity generation from renewable sources.

H.E. Dr. Al-Mashat affirmed that this presidential visit reflects the depth and strength of bilateral relations, and that the coming period will witness further discussions between relevant entities in both countries to translate the outcomes of this visit into practical measures and actionable steps that will elevate economic cooperation to new horizons.
