H.E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, participated in the ceremony honoring the winners of the 3rd edition of the Arab Government Excellence Award.
The award was launched by the Arab Administrative Development Organization at the Arab League, in collaboration with the Government of the United Arab Emirates, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai.
The ceremony was attended by Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Chairman of the Arab Government Excellence Award Board of Trustees, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, along with members of the award’s Board of Trustees, and representatives from a number of Arab governments.
The award is the first of its kind in the Arab world and the largest in the Arab region in the fields of administrative development, improvement, and excellence.
Also attending the ceremony were Dr. Hala Al-Said, Economic Affairs Advisor for the President, and H.E. Dr. Maya Morsi, Minister of Social Solidarity.
The ceremony witnessed the honoring of winners in 15 categories, including institutional and individual awards, covering all aspects of Arab governmental work. From Egypt, Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development, was honored with the Arab Government Excellence Award as the Best Governor in recognition of her efforts during her tenure as the Governor of Damietta.
Dr. Mai Abdel Hamid, CEO of the Social Housing and Mortgage Finance Fund, was also honored for winning the award for "Best Director-General of an Arab Organization or Institution."
Other winners included Mr. Murad Abdel Qader, Head of the Center and City of Ibshway, Fayoum Governorate, for Best Municipal Manager in Arab Cities, and Dr. Osama Al-Hedidi, Director-General of the Al-Azhar International Electronic Fatwa Center, for his project "Uniting the Family."
H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, congratulated H.E. Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development, following her recognition with the Best Governor Award for her tenure as Governor of Fayoum.
H.E. Dr. Al-Mashat also congratulated Dr. Mai Abdel Hamid, CEO of the Social Housing and Mortgage Finance Fund, for winning the award for Best Director-General of an Arab Agency, highlighting the fund’s efforts in supporting the Social Housing Program as one of Egypt's most significant national programs that support the right to housing for all Egyptians. H.E. emphasized that this program is a pioneering model of partnership between Egypt and the World Bank Group.
Additionally, H.E. Dr. Al-Mashat underscored the importance of maximizing the benefits of the Government Excellence Award in Egypt, increasing participation, and highlighting successful models within the state’s administrative apparatus.
It is worth mentioning that Egypt has won seven awards in previous editions of the Arab Government Excellence Award, in both institutional and individual categories.
In its third cycle, the Arab Government Excellence Award saw 8,300 Arab submissions, with 4,100 nominations received. Egypt submitted a total of 554 nominations across 15 categories, with 329 complete applications. A total of 21 nominees advanced to the evaluation stage.
The award aims to create momentum in the Arab world for government performance excellence, spotlight successful administrative practices in the Arab region, and honor distinguished government personnel, fostering positive leadership thinking in government sectors to adopt institutional excellence and update existing processes and systems using smart technologies to implement future government visions and strategies. The award includes 15 institutional and individual categories.
The Ministry of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, represented by the Egyptian Government Excellence Award Management, is the coordinator of the Arab Government Excellence Award in Egypt and is responsible for communicating with Egyptian government entities to follow up on the award's activities and stages.
