The Prime Minister follows up with the Minister of Planning on preparations for launching the National Narrative for Economic Development

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, the Prime Minister, met today with Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, the Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, as part of the efforts to prepare and launch the "National Narrative for Economic Development: Policies Supporting Growth and Employment."

The Prime Minister began the meeting by highlighting the importance of the "National Narrative for Economic Development" as a document, a reference framework, and a practical programme for the new economic model that the state aims to adopt. This is to be achieved by unifying various policies, strategies, and targets to ultimately serve as a unified platform for the documents and strategies that govern the government's current directions and work, which include the Government Work Programme, strategies for foreign direct investment, industrial development and foreign trade, and the national employment strategy, in line with "Egypt Vision 2030". This will ultimately contribute to continuing the journey of economic reform with increased engagement and partnership with the private sector, various international institutions, and concerned international partners.

The Prime Minister praised the efforts made by the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation in collaboration with all relevant ministries and authorities to launch this "National Narrative" soon, which acts as a "roadmap" for the axes of economic development over the coming years, thanking the entire team working on this file.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister was briefed on the main features of the "National Narrative for Economic Development," which is considered a reference framework supporting the economic reform process and achieving national goals in light of the surrounding regional and global challenges.

In this context, the Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation confirmed that, in light of the directives of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the continuous follow-up from Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, the Prime Minister, we have reached the final stages of preparing the "National Narrative for Economic Development."

The Minister added that the "National Narrative for Economic Development" has been formulated in full coordination with various concerned national entities to establish a reference framework and practical programme that takes into account the economic changes on both regional and international levels and leverages the significant potential of the Egyptian economy to achieve comprehensive and sustainable economic development.

At the same time, the Minister pointed out that the "National Narrative for Economic Development" includes five main axes related to enhancing macroeconomic stability, as well as foreign direct investment, industrial development and foreign trade, the efficiency and flexibility of the labour market, and regional planning to drive economic development. She noted that this national narrative is based on the economic and structural reform programme that the government has been implementing since March 2024, which has contributed to steering the Egyptian economy out of the challenges it faced towards utilising the significant potentials and opportunities available in Egypt, as well as the competitive advantages enjoyed by the Egyptian economy across various sectors.

The Minister also mentioned that the National Narrative for Economic Development has set a series of quantitative targets to translate the results of implementing structural reforms into a set of coherent quantitative goals, within a simplified and defined macroeconomic framework up to 2030 and what is anticipated by 2050 for the Egyptian economy in areas such as economic growth, employment, attracting foreign direct investment, localising industry, and other priorities, based on the available data during its preparation. She also indicated that the government continuously monitors the surrounding variables and closely observes regional and international developments to assess their impact on targeted economic pathways, as the "National Narrative for Economic Development" has been designed to be a flexible document capable of being updated according to developments, ensuring that public policies are directed towards achieving the desired development.
