H.E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation, and Mr. Youssef Al-Shamali, Jordanian Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, chaired the preparatory meetings at the ministerial level of the 32nd Egyptian-Jordanian Joint Higher Committee, held in the New Administrative Capital, from May 7 to 9. This is ongoing, in light of the joint and historical Egyptian-Jordanian relations, and the keenness to support and develop cooperation relations in all fields, as the meeting is a prelude to the convening of the joint higher committee, headed by H.E. Egypt’s Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and H.E. Jordan’s Prime Minister Dr. Bisher Khasawneh.
From the Egyptian side, participation included: H.E. Dr. Mohamed Shaker, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy; H.E. Dr. Hala Al-Saeed, Minister of Planning and Economic Development; Eng. Tarek Al-Mulla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources; H.E. Dr. Ali Al-Moselhi, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade; H.E. Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology; Lieutenant General Mohamed Abbas Helmy, Minister of Civil Aviation; Mr. Ahmed Samir, Minister of Trade and Industry; Mr. Ahmed Issa, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities; and Ambassador Mohamed El-Badry, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Arab Affairs, Ambassador Mahmoud Omar, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Arab Levant Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Samir, Egyptian Ambassador to Jordan, Mr. Karam Jabr, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Media Regulation, and representatives of the ministries and relevant entities.
From the Jordanian side, the participation included: Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources; Mr. Ahmad Al-Hanandeh, Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship; Eng. Wissam Al-Tahtamouni, Minister of Transport; Dr. Muhannad Al-Mubaidin, Minister of Government Communications; and Ms. Zainab Toukan, Minister of Planning and Cooperation; Mr. Makram Al-Qaisi, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities; the Jordanian Ambassador to Egypt, Amjad Al-Adaileh, and representatives of the relevant authorities from the Jordanian side.
H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation and Chair of the Egyptian Side, delivered an opening speech in which she welcomed the delegation of Hashemite the Kingdom of Jordan to Egypt, stressing the state’s keenness, under the leadership of H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, to deepen and consolidate various aspects of cooperation between the two countries in a way that improves the living conditions of citizens and achieves common interests.
The Minister of International Cooperation also stressed the great importance represented by the Egyptian-Jordanian committee, which reflects a mutual keenness to develop relations, which prompted it to convene for 32 sessions, making it one of the most regular joint Arab committees. This has also strengthened mechanisms for cooperation, follow-up and ongoing discussions at the level of all relevant entities, and contributed to increasing Jordanian investments in Egypt to more than $860 million, as well as Egyptian investments in Jordan reaching about $1 billion in many projects.
The Minister explained that in the coming period, in implementation of the directives of the leadership of the two countries, that Egypt looks forward to joint work through the joint committee and continuous follow-up at the level of technical committees, to develop aspects of cooperation that will be reflected in increasing the volume of investments and trade exchange, continuous follow-up of the Egyptian labor file in Jordan, and strengthening relations with the private sector of both countries.
For his part Mr. Youssef Al-Shamali, Jordanian Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, expressed his happiness with the meetings of the Egyptian-Jordanian Higher Committee being held in the New Administrative Capital, saying, “We are proud of this experience and we are happy with the warm reception usual from our Egyptian brothers, which comes in the context of our ongoing cooperation and embodies the depth of the relations between both countries in light of the directives of King Abdullah bin Al-Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and his brother, H.E. President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt.”
The Jordanian Minister stressed in his speech, “We are continuing to invest in historical relations, and consolidating cooperation within the system of joint Arab action to be reflected in various areas of cooperation and development. Investing in these ties at the bilateral level has resulted in great forms of cooperation, bringing the volume of trade exchange to $900 million in 2023, which reflects the importance of these meetings, which come at a time when we are witnessing growing challenges that we are working to address.”
He also mentioned the importance of benefiting from the capabilities and strengths of the two countries to confront the challenges that allow us to build an economic partnership based on the strength, diversity and sustainability of national economies. This is within the framework of bilateral and multilateral regional integration, especially in light of the increasing challenges that threaten the economies of the region, which also necessitates tripartite cooperation between Jordan, Egypt and Iraq.
During the meeting, the heads of the expert delegations from the two countries presented the report on the results of the meetings between the technical teams that lasted over two days with the participation of representatives of all ministries and concerned authorities, which witnessed constructive and diverse discussions that included various aspects of joint cooperation, and discussion of increasing exchange and achieving benefit from the trade and industrial agreements between the two countries. They also discussed enhancing cooperation in the field of industry and small and medium enterprises, stimulating efforts to increase investments, and discussing ways to develop cooperation relations in the fields of electricity and energy, and various cultural, educational, youth and media fields.
The Egyptian-Jordanian Joint Higher Committee is considered one of the most regular committees since its establishment in 1985. Over the course of 31 sessions of the committee, the latest of which was held in August in the Jordanian capital, Amman, more than 173 cooperation agreements have been signed in various priority areas including economic, trade, investment, cultural, scientific, and technical cooperation. This has reflected positively on enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two countries in priority areas, increasing trade exchange rates, investments, and facilitating the exchange of expertise.
During the 31st session of the Joint Committee, the Prime Ministers of the two countries witnessed the signing of 12 cooperation documents in various fields, including a memorandum of understanding in the field of formulating economic and development policies and exchanging experiences, a memorandum of understanding between the Financial Regulatory Authority in Egypt and the Securities Commission in the Kingdom of Jordan, the executive program for cooperation between the two countries in the field of environmental protection for the years (2025/2023), the executive program for cooperation in the field of social affairs for the years (2024/2023), a joint cooperation program between the Jordanian News Agency and the Egyptian Middle East News Agency, the executive program for cultural cooperation between the two countries for the years (2026/2023), and the executive program for technical cooperation in the field of vocational training for the years (2024/2023).
In addition to a memorandum of understanding between the Egyptian Ministry of Health and the Jordanian Ministry of Health, a memorandum of understanding between the Egyptian Ministry of Endowments and the Jordanian Ministry of Endowments, Islamic Affairs and Holy Places. Also, a bilateral agreement in the field of electronic postal payment services, and the seventh executive program of the cooperation agreement in the field of manpower for the years (2023/2024). And a memorandum of understanding for cooperation between the National Social Insurance Authority and the General Organization for Social Security.
The Ministry of International Cooperation supervises 68 committees between the Arab Republic of Egypt and countries from various continents of the world, including 8 Asian committees, 30 European committees, 14 committees with Arab countries, 9 African committees, in addition to 7 committees with Latin American countries.
