At the beginning of the meeting, H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat expressed gratitude to the Jordanian side for their warm reception and hospitality. She also affirmed the diligent efforts made by the ministries and entities concerned with cooperation relations in both countries.
H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat highlighted the continuous and ongoing coordination with Egyptian ministers and communication with the Jordanian Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, H.E. Eng. Yarub Al-Qudah, and the Jordanian Embassy in Cairo. The aim is to follow up on the implementation of the decisions from the previous session of the Higher Joint Committee, and to reach agreements and understandings for the proper preparation of the current session.
H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, who heads the Egyptian side in the preparatory ministerial meetings, also praised the expert delegations from both countries and the participating national entities for their coordination over the past few days to reach agreements on the documents expected to be signed during the current session of the committee.
During her speech, H.E. Dr. Al-Mashat outlined the most notable achievements since the 32nd session of the committee held in Cairo. She noted that the continuous understanding between the two countries and their commitment to advancing joint relations were reflected in an increase in the volume of trade to more than $1 billion. She added that the significant economic potential of both countries suggests that these levels are poised for further growth.
H.E. Minister Al-Mashat also mentioned the convening of the fourth meeting of the Egyptian-Jordanian Joint Technical Committee in the field of specifications and standards and the continuation of the truck and refrigerated transport mechanism between the two countries via the Aqaba-Nuweiba line.
She affirmed the two governments' commitment to overcoming all challenges that may hinder the movement of trucks and trade.
The Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation also underscored the achievements in the fields of electricity, gas, and oil. Understandings of the 33rd Session of the Committee
Regarding the 33rd session of the Higher Joint Committee, H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat noted that the delegations from both countries reached numerous understandings on the documents scheduled for signing during the Higher Committee, under the chairmanship of the prime ministers. These agreements cover fields such as planning, investment, government procurement, tourism and antiquities, and other areas of mutual interest.
Activation of Various MoUs
In a related context, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat confirmed that during the current session, the two countries agreed to activate a number of previously signed MoUs. These include the MoU for cooperation in the establishment and management of industrial zones, signed between the Jordanian Industrial Estates Corporation and the Egyptian Industrial Development Authority; the MoU between the Jordanian Department of Companies Control and the Egyptian Financial Regulatory Authority; the administrative and technical cooperation MoU in the fields of free zones and development zones; the MoU signed between the Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency(MSMEDA); and the MoU signed between the Ministries of Health in both countries.
An agreement was also reached to hold technical committees and meetings in many areas of mutual interest, including specifications and standards, planning, consumer protection, medicine, media, aviation, agriculture, and land/maritime transport.
H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat emphasized the commitment to ensuring the committee's work contributes to bringing visions and positions closer on issues of mutual interest in many areas, most importantly enhancing economic cooperation and increasing trade volume and investment. This is in addition to technical, scientific, cultural, political, and security cooperation, especially in light of the complex political, developmental, and economic challenges facing the Arab region.
It is worth noting that the joint committee mechanism is one of the main tools through which Egypt seeks to strengthen economic, trade, and investment relations, as well as cultural, scientific, and technical cooperation with sister and friendly countries. The Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation oversees approximately 55 joint committees between Egypt and various countries from different continents.
In 2024, the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation held meetings of the Egyptian-Romanian Joint Committee, the Egyptian-Jordanian Committee, the Egyptian-Tajikistani Joint Ministerial Committee, the first session of the Egyptian-Polish Joint Committee, and the Egyptian-Uzbekistani Joint Committee. More recently, in 2025, the first session of the Egyptian-Swiss Joint Committee was held.
