The Launch of the High-level Roundtable of the NWFE program, Titled “A Year of Implementation,” in the Presence of the Prime Minister, with an Extensive International Presence of Development Partners and Heads of International Financial Institutions.

Today, the high-level roundtable of the NWFE program, titled “A Year of Implementation,” in the presence of H.E. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and organized by the Ministry of International Cooperation was launched, on the occasion of the one-year anniversary of the NWFE program. The roundtable was to monitor the progress achieved in implementing the program’s projects at the level of water, food, energy and sustainable transport pillars.

Participating in the round table are the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Electricity and Renewable Energy, Environment, Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Housing, Agriculture, Transport, Water Resources and Irrigation, along with the Chairman of the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone, and the Chairman of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones.

The round table also witnessed the intense international participation from the heads of international financial institutions and development partners, including Odile Renaud Basso, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Gerardine Mukeshimana, Vice-President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Gelsomina Vigliotti, Vice-President of the EBRD, Mohamed Al-Azizi, Director General of North Africa at the African Development Bank (AfDB), and Ambassador Christian Berger, Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Egypt, along with representatives of the World Bank Group (WBG), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the EU, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and  Development, the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa, the World Food Programme (WFP), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ), the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), representatives of France, the United States of America, Denmark, Canada, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, as well as representatives of the private sector, the parliament, and media institutions.

It is scheduled that the round table activities will review the aspects of progress in implementing the NWFE program projects, and the first follow-up report for it will be launched.

The report includes details of the development of joint action efforts and coordination between multilateral and bilateral development partners, international alliances in the field of climate action, and national bodies, to implement the pledges of the program, which aims to mobilize investments worth $14.7 billion to implement 9 projects in the fields of mitigation and adaptation to climate change in the water, food, and energy sectors. In addition to reviewing the development of the partnership in light of the NWFE+ program, which includes sustainable transportation projects.

In July 2022, the Ministry of International Cooperation, in coordination with national agencies and development partners, launched the NWFE program, the Nexus for Water, Food and Energy Platform, in order to support the state’s efforts in implementing Egypt’s National Strategy for Climate Change 2050, the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and Egypt’s Vision 2030, by strengthening efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change, in light of Egypt’s presidency of COP27. The platform also comes in the implementation of the directives of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers for the Ministry of International Cooperation to promote the list of green national projects with development partners and international institutions.
