Dr. Nasr Discusses Developments of the Egypt-Japan Education Partnership (EJEP) and the Portfolio of Future Cooperation with JICA

The Minister of Investment and International Cooperation Dr. Sahar Nasr met with the Vice Regional Director of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Ms. Miyahara Chie during her visit to Egypt to follow up on the development projects funded by JICA in Egypt.

Both sides discussed the implementation rate of the projects agreed upon during President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s visit to Tokyo in February 2016, most importantly the Egypt-Japan Education Partnership (EJEP)  to develop education, which was divided over three pillars, developing primary schools by introducing the Japanese educational system

" TOKKATSU " , developing higher education through educational scholarships in Japan in fields of priority for Egypt such as new and renewable energy, water distillation, and the supply of research equipment and technological apparatuses for

Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST) worth USD 9 million after signing the first trench worth USD 18 million on 26 July 2016, noting that there was constant coordination between MIIC and the Ministries of Education, Technical Education and Higher Education concerning EJEP.

Dr. Nasr commended cooperation between Egypt and JICA, noting that the Grand Egyptian Museum was a symbol of cultural and civilizational cooperation between both countries, which contributed to increasing job opportunities for youth.

Both sides discussed projects under the portfolio of current and future cooperation between Egypt and Japan. Within this context, the Minister reiterated that the Government’s priority during this phase was to implement development projects that would serve Egyptian citizens such as transportation, electricity, energy and education.

On her part Ms. Chie ascertained that JICA was committed to supporting Egypt’s development projects, thereby increase the volume of cooperation between both sides.
