Dr. Nasr: “The President gives due regard to the convention of the committee which will be co-chaired by PMs of both countries and will be concluded on Thursday”.

The 8th session of the Egyptian-Lebanese Higher Committee will commence tomorrow in Cairo and continue until 23 March 2017, given that the experts’ meetings of both sides will be held tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. While the ministerial committee will be co-chaired by the Egyptian Minister of Investment and International Cooperation Dr. Sahar Nasr and the Lebanese Minister of Economy and Trade Mr. Raed Khoury, the higher committee will be co-chaired by Egypt’s PM Sheriff Ismail and his Lebanese counterpart Saad Hariri.  

Dr. Nasr stated that the convention of the higher committee was given the attention of the Egyptian President and his Lebanese counterpart Michel Aoun, given that it has been 7 years since the committee was last held in 2010. She further referred to the Egyptian political leadership’s keenness on rendering the committee successful. 
According to Dr. Nasr, several official documents are expected to be signed between both countries during the committee. Such documents will be in the fields of consumer protection, supporting SMEs, cooperation in the industrial field, participating in international exhibitions and markets and protection of intellectual properties as well as the veterinary field, workforce, tourism, women empowerment, social affairs, youth, environment protection, culture, antiquities, public administrations and the civil and sports service.    
The Minister commended the tangible achievements and the positive development witnessed by the Egyptian- Lebanese cooperation, especially at economic level. She also highlighted entering into tripartite cooperation projects in Africa, while referring to Egypt’s aspirations to enhance joint cooperation during the upcoming period. 
The investment, tourism, agricultural, cultural, commercial and industrial file topped the committee’s agenda, indicated the Minister, pointing out that the committee would discuss cooperation areas in the field of joint investments between Egypt and Lebanon and also would tackle opening up new horizons of investment between both countries, in light of the Egyptian government’s efforts to foster an adequate climate to attract foreign investments. The Minister also referred to Egypt’s focus on encouraging private investments and to the significance of creating a positive climate that seeks to overcome all obstacles facing investors. 
In addition, the Minister commended the vital and significant role played by businessmen in both countries and the significance of the formation of the Egyptian- Lebanese Businessmen Council. She further reiterated the necessity that the upcoming period would witness more active role to provide access to the Egyptian exports to Africa through ‘Egypt- Lebanon to Africa’ Initiative, which would make a quantum leap in the Arab economy through exporting Arab products to Africa.
