FEMIP was established by EIB in 2002 for providing financing to neighboring Mediterranean countries (Egypt, Tunis, Morocco, Algeria, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Gaza/West Bank, Israel) in the sectors of energy, environment, SME industrial support, transport and industries. EIB’s regional office in Cairo was opened in 2003 for overseeing Egypt’s relationship with the EIB.
• A framework agreement was signed between Egypt and EIB in 1997.
