Joint Commissions

The Joint Committee between Egypt and Hungary

Historical Background

Bilateral relations between Egypt and Hungary are based on close cooperation between both countries.  Egypt has attempted to reinforce and expand its cooperation with Hungary through the activation of the joint committee between both countries.  The Joint Egyptian-Hungarian Committee held its first session in 2008 on the level of senior officials, after a cessation for nearly 21 years (the last Joint Committee meeting was held in 1987) to follow up and discuss developments of bilateral cooperation in various fields, particularly health and medicine, trade, investment, tourism, higher education, scientific research, the environment and human resource development.
During the discussions held between the Egyptian Minister of International Cooperation and the Hungarian Foreign Minister in 2009, both parties tackled the development of cooperation between their countries and agreed to activate the results reached at the meetings of the Egyptian Hungarian Joint Committee for Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.  The significant role of the Egyptian Hungarian Joint Business Council was emphasized.
At the bilateral meetings held between Hungarian officials and their counterparts of the Ministry of International Cooperation, both sides discussed cooperation in the field of rural development through a project under study for realizing integrated rural development in Kafr El-Sheikh governorate, as well as promoting cooperation in financial and banking fields through the draft cooperation agreement between the Export Development Bank of Egypt and the Hungarian Export and Import Bank, as well as the agreement to establish a subcommittee of the Egyptian Hungarian Joint Committee for Economic,  Scientific and Technical Cooperation to explore cooperation opportunities and projects in the field of the environment to promote bilateral cooperation in this vital sector.
